Supreme Court affirms Tambuwal’s election victory
The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Governor of Sokoto State.
In a judgment, a seven-man panel of the court dismissed the appeal filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Aliyu, for failure to prove his petition.
In the lead judgment, Justice Uwani Abba Aji who held that the appellant grossly failed to prove that Tambuwal’s election was fraught with irregularities, upheld the concurrent decisions of the election tribunal and Court of Appeal.
The court dismissed the cross-appeal filed by Tambuwal on the grounds that having dismissed the main appeal (marked: SC/1466/2019), the cross-appeal (marked: SC/1467/2019 has become academic.
