Police officers beat Mechanic to Death in Rivers


Men of the River State Police Command in Port Harcourt has beaten a mechanic Chima Ikunado who was in theri custody to death.

Nigerian journalist Comrade Phil who narrated how the mechanic was killed said he was tourtured by policemen attached to the Mile 1 Police Station, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The journalist who gave his car to Chima for repair said after the repairs, Chima and some of his colleagues took the car for testing before they were arrested for driving against traffic. He said Chima and the other mechanics were immediately taken to the police station where they were accused of robbery.

Phil said Chima died while the officers of the Nigerian police force tortured him.

The journalist listed the name of the policemen involved in the atrocity to include SP. Benson Adetuyi who is the commander of E-Crack team at the police station and a certain Inspector Sam of the same police station.

Meanwhile, the Police on Friday disclosed that the death of the mechanic has been noted by the force headquarters and will be taken up by the state commissioner of Police

The head of police complaint unit Marcus Basiran tweeted.

Also reacting, the spokesman man of the River state Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said reports from autopsy according to the commander of E-Crack , SP Benson Adetuyi revealed that the victim died of high sugar level.

Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who also confirmed the arraignment of four other suspects in the matter, said the suspects are already at the Port Harcourt Correctional Service and that the commissioner of Police has ordered investigation into the incident, which he said has already commenced.

DSP Omoni pleaded with family of the victim and members of the public to remain calm while the police conclude their investigation, assuring that those found guilty will be punished accordingly.
