Turkish airline skids off runway killing 3


At least three people were killed and dozens reportedly injured after a Turkish plane skidded off the runway while landing at an Istanbul airport.

The plane which is said to have landed in rough weather skidded the runway, caught fire and split into three killing three persons and getting another 179 persons injured.

Images broadcast on the Turkish television showed several survivors climbing through a large crack in the severed aircraft and escaping onto one of the wings at the rear.

According to reports by the Turkish television, the Boeing 737 operated by Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines had flown into Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport from the Aegean port city of Izmir on Wednesday,

“Some passengers evacuated the plane by themselves but others are stuck inside and our rescuers are working to free them,” Transport Minister Mehmet Cahit Turhan said on CNN-Turk television.

The Istanbul governor Ali Yerlikaya  attributed the crash to bad weather saying it “could have had more serious consequences.”
