Ondo Deputy governor dumps PDP, emerges ZLP candidate


The Ondo Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, has joined the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ajayi joined the ZLP barely 48 days after joining the PDP and nearly two months after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ajayi, who lost the primary of the PDP to Eyitayo Jegede, was said to have sent his resignation letter to the PDP secretariat at Apoi Ward 2 in Kiribo town, Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday.

The PDP under the chairmanship of Festus Oboro acknowledged the receipt of the resignation letter.

Ajayi took to his twitter page to share the news of his defection.

“Today 10th August 2020, I Resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party to join Zenith Labour party to further my Aspirations.

“I appreciate the National Leadership and members of the party for their warm reception and acceptance in the short period i rejoined the party”. He added.

Ajayi has been cleared to contest the October 10 governorship election in the state under ZLP.

The Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Tope Okeowo, confirmed the development said his principal “has been cleared and no going back on that again. He is ZLP candidate”.

Jegede polled 888 votes to beat the embattled deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi (657 votes)

Ajayi had left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after falling out with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
