A fake medical doctor identified as Dr Ibrahim Adamu has been arrested by the Private health Institution Management Agency [PHIMA] under the state ministry of health, in a joint operation with the Nigerian Medical Association [NMA] Kano Branch.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, state Ministry of Health, Ismail Gwammaja, indicated that the agency has been on the trail of the suspect for a long time, but was only able to arrest him now, as he moved regularly from one hospital to the other within and outside the state.
Ismail said the fake doctor who has been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution was apprehended by the same agency in 2014, prosecuted and convicted, but was later set free.
The statement said the agency’s Executive Secretary, Dr Tijjani Usman, enjoined all residents to be vigilant in their dealings with health practitioners and report any abnormal action to the agency for quick intervention.
Usman said the suspect, while at the police station confessed that, the document belongs to one medical doctor who is seeking for a job at ideal hospital, where the suspect was earlier working as a staff. He further confessed that, he stole the document from the original owner.
The secretary and NMA said this time around they will make sure that they follow the case to a logical conclusion to ensure that he is prosecuted, so as to serve as a detriment to others.
