Buhari declares Zamfara no-fly-zone, bans mining activities

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared Zamfara state a no-fly-zone and also announced a ban on all mining activities in the state to curb the rising insecurity in the area.

National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd) disclosed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday after a five hour Security Council meeting presided over by President Buhari at the presidential Villa, Abuja.

The NSA said the country’s defence and intelligence organization have been put on alert and charged not to allow the country to slide into a state of anarchy.

Monguno also said the president, in the meeting, gave a marching order to the new service chiefs to reclaim all areas under the control by bandits, insurgents and kidnappers.

“We are not going to be blackmailed. The government has the responsibility to assert its will,” Monguno said.
